From 1 October, the indoor bowls green will be OPEN, but with three rinks only, allowing us to provide a 2-3 metre gap between rinks. We have decided that face coverings will be mandatory for all indoor bowling. However, social distancing will be a priority in addition to ensuring good hygiene, thus reducing or eliminating the risk of the virus being passed on to someone unknowingly. So far, over 80 players have indicated they will be participating this season at the club and this is increasing all the time.

On the first two days of the season, we will host 4 Introductory/open sessions, where you can view the new arrangements, be briefed on the safety requirements, so that we all stay safe and you can have a roll up using the revised playing rules, to both “get your eye in” and become familiar with some necessary changes for the game.

On 1 and 2 October, these sessions will be from 1000 – 1200 hrs and 1900 -2100 hrs and you can book a place by contacting Brenda Shepherd by phone – 01608 642098 (leave a message if you don’t get an answer) or SMS on 07506 250311 or preferably send an email via the “CONTACT US” link on the club website (www.chippingnortonbowls.co.uk). Please don’t arrive without pre-booking as we have to limit numbers due to govt rules.

The days of randomly turning up to play have gone I’m afraid and you now need to book your rinks via an online booking system. This can be done with your phone – set up an icon for the link at https://chippingnortonbowls.jezzam.com or book via our club website by clicking on “make a booking”. This will tell you how to make a booking. Both of these options will ask for your email address and password before linking you to the booking system and it is easy to select the day and session you want, listing all those planning to play.

If the day or session is not shown on the front page, this indicates that it has already been fully booked, so please select an alternative that will be offered.

If you don’t have an email address or computer, please phone Les Waller on 07884 133315, and he will make the booking for you. If you can’t get through to Les for any reason, phone John Hurren on 07786 072937 who can also assist.

To start with, we will put all the known Email addresses onto the system and this will generate an Email to each of you, asking you to register. You need to provide your first name and surname, plus a password, which you will need to make future bookings. Once registered the process is very simple, as the site will recognise you when you put in your Email address.

Changes have been necessary to all leagues due to lower numbers participating, but the following leagues will be running with friendly games over the first few weeks to allow you to acclimatise to the new ways of playing in safety. These

will be on Tuesday AM, Tuesday evening, Wednesday AM, Thursday AM, Friday AM and Friday evening. Many people have been contacted by their captains to confirm their support and checking availability for the dates up to Christmas. Thanks to all those offering to captain teams to replace those that won’t be bowling this year. All leagues will be Triples to start with, but this may change if more people return to bowling.

You don’t need to book a rink for your league games, as this will be pre-programmed.

LADIES – As there were insufficient numbers to run the Monday afternoon league, we will be running a competitive session, along the lines of the drawn hat competition last year. This gives flexibility dependent on the number of people turning up, but we encourage all ladies to come and join in. A maximum of 18 ladies can be accommodated for each Monday afternoon, so book early to avoid disappointment.

Club Competitions

The outstanding finals from last winter will be played during November and members who reached the finals, but have chosen not to rejoin will be invited back to play a couple of roll-ups before playing their final.

New competitions will start after the Xmas break, when we have all re-acclimatised to the “Covid safe” requirements

Other matches

We hope to offer a programme of friendly matches during the season, but still await further guidance from the EIBA on this matter.

Social facilities

The coffee machine will be available and you will need £1 coins for this. We will have a new cup dispenser, which will ensure you handle one cup only.

The bar will be available when an authorised bar person is in attendance, as the old habit of helping yourself will stop. It is hoped to provide a bar person for evening league dates. Face Coverings will not be required when sitting down in the bar area to enjoy your drink, but face coverings will be required in all other parts of the building, including the occasions when you visit the toilets. (This is the law from Thursday, 24 Sept) Card payments are preferred for the bar, although cash will still be accepted.

Face Coverings are mandatory within the building, unless you remain seated in the bar area. If you forget to bring a face covering, you can purchase a mask from the club for £1 (for two)or a face shield at £2 each. These will be

available at the door for the first few days, until people get into this regime. If you don’t or won’t wear a face covering, you will be asked to leave. We intend to ensure all the safety rules are complied with, to keep people safe on our premises. We hope you will respect our insistence on this.

The changing rooms remain closed, so we have partitioned off the dining room as a temporary changing space to allow shoes to be changed.

Membership fee

I confirm the membership fee combines unlimited green fees, to avoid the constant handling of cash on site. This has been set at £120 for the season and offers real value if you plan to play more than once a week. The payments can be split if you wish.

Annual payments or first instalments are due by 15 October please, with second instalments by 15 January 2021. You can send a cheque to the club or place a cheque in the box in the clubroom if you prefer. Alternatively you can make a bank transfer (BACS payment) direct to the club account, as follows:

Name of Account: Chipping Norton Bowls Club

Sort code: 09-01-56 Account number: 44171189

Please put your name in the reference box, so that we know where the money has come from and indicate whether the payment is for one or more persons by adding: x 1 or x 2 , for example.

A lot of work has been undertaken to ensure bowling can resume in a safe environment and we look forward to welcoming old and new friends at the club.

If you have any questions at all, please post these back to us via the online link on our website. We will provide a response as quickly as we can.
