We were blessed with a lovely day and the bowls green looked excellent and played very well.  Well done to Martin and Keith.

The first game was the ‘Drawn Open Mens Pairs’ between Percy Hickman and Mike Harris against Mike Boobyer and Tony Smith. The game was very close with single shots being scored on alternative ends resulting in level pegging at 19 ends.  At this point in the game Mike Boobyer took the lead by 3 shots on the final end, but Percy had a wonderful shot picking up the jack to lay 5 shots and this won a very exciting and close game.

In the afternoon Percy played Alex in the ‘Over 60s Singles’, only just qualifying by age.  This was a close game for much of the time but Percy managed to win.

The ‘Never Won Singles’ competition was played in the afternoon.  Roberta put up a valiant fight, but Alex Fleming managed to win.  It was a close game and Alex should watch out next year.

The ‘Ladies Singles’ was an excellent competition between Sue Field and Pat Brown.  It started with Pat scoring very quickly and reaching 17 shots leaving Sue stuck on 6 shots.  Sue then made an excellent recovery and they reached 20-20 with Sue then going on to win. A great game to watch.

‘Men’s Singles’ was an excellent game with John Benfield playing Percy Hickman. This game remained close until the end and was a pleasure to watch.  On the last end the winner was Percy who won by a millimetre.  Another great game to watch.

‘2 Woods’ involved Percy Hickman playing against Martin Sparks.   Martin started very well and scored the first 6 shots but as the green dried up Percy got the better of Martin, but watch out next year, well done Martin.

The ‘John Quinn Sets’. This again was an excellent game with the first set going to Alex Fleming.  Martin Sparks took the second set and the tiebreak went to Martin, at last a win, well done

‘Drawn Open Pairs’ was an  excellent game with Tony Smith & Pat Brown against Tony Backer-Holst and Elaine Cook.  This was a long game which remained close right up to the end.   As this was our final game they had plenty of support.

Prior to finals weekend we held a ‘Triples Day’ which was very successful with Geff Martin, Martin Acock and Tony Backer Holst winning.  Worthy  winners.

The ‘Married Couples’ had to be played in advance of the weekend due to two of the competitors having to play long games on the Saturday and Sunday.
